What Does It Mean To Trust In God?
A couple of weeks ago, Sam was a guest preacher at St Erkenwald’s and he opened by asking; ‘if you trust in God, what would that look like?’
After a bit of a chat a lot of us in the congregation determined that if you didn’t trust in God, you would live in fear and anxiety. On the flip side of that, trusting in God means you walk in confidence and less fear because you know that although it may not feel like it, everything would be OK and He has it covered. Sam then went on to explain that, yes the outcomes of trusting God is all of those things, but that actually trusting God means obeying Him.
This struck me.
It seems wherever I go at the moment He is asking me to trust in Him. Whether that is through the Chosen…(I have just caught up on season 4, where they set up the background as to why Thomas is now known as doubting Thomas and why Judas didn’t understand what Jesus was trying to do.)… or through the word like at St Erkenwald’s… or during prayer and worship with my church family… or in my Bible time – going through the book of Job and now the Psalms its so clear to me that trusting in Him and walking the path He has laid out ahead of us as disciples is a necessity.
So with Lent coming up, this has been on my heart. Getting closer to the Word and having good habits and rhythms in this period of reflection is going to be key.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
Proverbs 3:5-6
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.
We will have weekly blogs throughout Lent starting next Wednesday. These will be based on the ‘Make Space For What Matters’ Bible Plan, to help each of us carve out time and space in our daily lives to truly be disciples; follow and trust in Him.
