Role ContextThe Church of England are planting a new worshipping community in Barking Riverside, East London. This is an exciting time to be part of the team as we shape and support the community that is forming. Barking Riverside is an area of huge growth and development with a planned 10,800 homes being built over the next 15 years. Church at Barking Riverside is seeking to facilitate a growing community of disciples of Jesus in the places they live and work.   Church at Barking Riverside is still embryonic, as such there are a lot of administrative structures that need to be put in place. The post-holder will enable processes to be set up in a timely manner, working closely with our sending church All Saints Woodford Wells and ensure that they are fit for purpose on an ongoing basis.  
Role PurposeImplement and maintain the administration and communications required to enable the life of the Church at Barking Riverside. This is a varied role with scope for it to develop with the post holder as the Church grows.   The purpose of all staff employed by the Church at Barking Riverside is to facilitate others to thrive in the life of Jesus.

ResponsibilitiesAdministration Support the development and implement administrative processes required as the Church becomes a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. Support the transition of working within All Saints Woodford Wells (the supporting church) processes through to adapting them to be relevant for the context at Barking Riverside when appropriate. Process DBS checks Take minutes at Trustees and Vision Group meetings. And other relevant tasks as they arise.   Communications Developing our presence on social media, ensuring content is timely and relevant, events are shared and community life facilitated, through the creation and distribution of engaging written or graphic content in the form of e-newsletters, Web page updates, blogs or social media messages. Generate and share content that encourage the church and wider communities in their engagement with Jesus.   Events management Enable the running of events in the life of the community as determined by the post holder’s line manager. These may include overseeing food preparation and handling for community meals, as well as managing/coordinating members of the community. In light of Covid-19 greater creativity will be required to find ways to celebrate as a community safely.  
Expectations15 hours, typically as two full days but flexible working will be required for events on evenings and weekends, time to be taken in lieu.25 days holiday plus bank holidays. This equates to 10 days per annum plus 3.5 bank holidays.Meet weekly with team/line manager initially.The post holder will need to be available to work key dates and events which may be at Christmas and Easter time.The communications element of the role is expected to be provide pivotal support to our church growth and a mouth piece for sharing about Jesus. As a result, it would be desirable that the post holder has a great understanding of the teachings of Jesus and is supportive of the church community’s values.This is a fixed term contract, as the church community grows and establishes there is potential for the role to develop and/or be made permanent.
