Do You Really Need To Change?

Happy New Year!

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him”

James 1:5

It’s true what they say; change is good sometimes. And if nothing else the beginning of the year is probably the time the majority of us are re-evaluating our goals and lives in general looking at how we can be ‘better’. But better in what way? And better by who’s measure?

Most of us would be focused on earthly things:

  • losing weight, mostly being attached to how you look rather than your health and how you feel
  • focusing on career goals which are often money and success related
  • learning a new skill that will help make us more impressive to our peers/the opposite (or same) sex or may be related to success as well

But, is that what is most important? Is that how we truly better ourselves and make an impact on this world?

What we should really be focusing on is what God wants us to focus on in the coming year. He has a plan for each of us. All we have to do is surrender and let Him use us in the way He put us on this earth for. So rather than focusing on what WE want to do, or quit, or start. We need to look to God for guidance; what is it that will help us stand in better stead for what He has planned for us this year?

My prayer for this new year:

Lord, I pray that, in this time that calls for big changes, decisions and goal setting, we, your children look to you to make clear the things we need to focus on what you are calling us to do. Remind us that the earthly, physical things aren’t t be put on a pedal stool to be attained. Rather as disciples, we should be joining in with the work you are already doing. Guide and protect us on this journey with you Lord.

Amen.

Whatever you feel is the main thing(s) for you to focus on this year, the thing to keep returning to is prayer. Keep praying about your resolutions and how you are working towards fulfilling them. Prayer is the key to making sure you’re on the right track and it ensures God is the one steering you, nothing and no one else.

“Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.”

Psalm 37:5-6
